Banquet Chinese is a restaurant and venue unlike any other found in Colchester or North Essex today. This is Chinese food the way it is meant to be experienced! Our mouth-watering dishes are cooked to perfection by award-winning chefs using only the freshest and finest ingredients.

The interior has been carefully chosen and imported from China to create a genuine and sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy your lunch or evening meal, perhaps together with a bottle of wine from the well rounded wine list supplied by Liberty Wines.

We have two private dining rooms available for your own exclusive parties, weddings and corporate conferences. The two rooms have their own entrance and can hold 30 and 50 people respectively, but for larger gatherings, the two rooms can be combined. Menus can be tailored to individual requirements ranging from Dim Sum to the finest Chinese banquet. Our private dining rooms have access to our beautiful Chinese style garden with lovely water features. Superb Dim Sum as usual my fellow guests had various dishes also and they were also excellent.

Being early evening on a Sunday, the place was comfortably quiet with just over half the tables occupied. Despite the "Busy Sunday Dim Sum Onslaught (1130 to 1500) the waiting staff sustained their usual excellent service with a smile. Welcoming and "nothing too much trouble". Credit to them. Food was good as usual - Roast Duck, Roast Crispy Pork, Char Siu, Chicken & Cashew, Morning Glory, Prawn Toast, Beef Ho Fun with Choi Sum/ Gravy, Japanese Bean Curd with Spinach. I must highlight the Salt & Pepper Squid - which I regard to be even better than many in HONG KONG. It was so well deep fried that you cannot pick out any oil with a tissue. The other star was Prince Fried Rice - which we ordered without prawns. So basically Scallop Fried fried . (We had not ordered it for a while because on the last occasion, it was so greasy.) It was excellent. Could not have been fried better - in the absence of the "Hong Kong Jet Engine Gas Stove" which is banned in the U.K. and USA but allowed in Canada). I also ought to mention the beef in Beef Ho Fun. A while ago, I passed a message to the "Big Chef" that the beef (and particularly the Dim Sum Spare Ribs in Black Bean Sauce) was excessively tenderised. Sodium Bicarbonate/ Corn Flour is used by Hong Kong Chinese Restaurants to tenderise beef but it was excessively done in Banquet until yesterday. (So the Big Chef must have noted. Thank You.) It resulted in the meat/ spare ribs ended up without any "texture of meat". (NOTE :- Malaysian/ Thai/ Vietnam and "Hong Kong Housewife Cooking (please excuse my politically incorrectness as I am translating direct from Cantonese) do not involve tenderising beef. Hence I never order beef from Malaysian/ Thai/ Vietnamese)

As usual, a SUPERB night out. Venue, food and service perfection. We LOVE this Chinese Restaurant as it never fails in it's really high standards. The food so "moorish" flavoursome, and always served really hot. Staff courteously ask if you want to have a break between courses which is exceptional - not trying to rush you out the door! The staff are just wonderful. Ken, Ping, Osca and so many more that I don't know names of. Its good that they retain the same "sunny" staff which must show that the Management value their employees who serve the restaurant with amazing energy and brightness. Their enthusiasm to "serve " and their friendliness is really appreciated. We love the food which is consistantly amazing. If youi have not yet tried this restaurant, then you are missing out on a really wonderful experience.

The food was amazing as usual and piping hot. The staff were available if we needed anything but weren’t over the top and there was a very pleasant atmosphere. We shall definitely e going back.

A lovely evening with the family. Food and service excellent. Hong Kong set meal for 4 a great choice. Will head back very soon!
