El restaurante Amaya en el hotel Fairmont Grand Del Mar cuenta con vistas espectaculares inspiradas en el Mediterráneo que lo harán olvidar que se encuentra cenando en San Diego. Amaya lo transportará a las costas de España, Italia y Francia mientras disfruta de un almuerzo o una cena en la acogedora terraza compartida o en la elegante área del comedor. El menú distintivo de Amaya ofrece una gastronomía al estilo American Cusine con influencias mediterráneas. La chef Dana Hauser presenta una gran variedad de tentadoras entradas, pasta, risotto y entrantes deliciosas tales como camarones asados al ajo acompañados de pistaches y salda de romesco con pimiento morrón, así como costillas de ternera asadas con un gratinado de espárragos y prosciutto. Buscábamos un sunday brunch y el buffet era pobrísimo , nos debimos conformar con menú de lunch muy sencillo aunque bastante bueno en sabor y calidad .

We went here for brunch. The host gave us warm greetings and the server was polite and kind. Food options were great on the 3 course meal menu and portions were generous. The server didn’t give us a hard time for sharing my 3 course meal with my 8 year old and it was so much food we still had leftovers. Service was on the slow side but we didn’t mind because that meant more time to enjoy the beautiful view and the ambience. It was also nice that valet was free if you eat at the restaurant. After the meal, we walked around the beautiful resort grounds and the area outside of the main building that had a Christmas tree and outdoor games.

To be fair, let me start off by saying that is more of a fine dining place which is not usually our jam. That being said, service was slow and not very attentive but maybe that’s the point…to just sit, wait, wait longer, and relax. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine to share and the waiter poured our glasses and then kept the bottle at his wait station. This would have been fine if he was attentive enough to keep our wine poured but he was nowhere to be found for at least 20 minutes at a time. I had to ask one of the assistant waiters to bring the bottle in our bucket and leave it at our table. Food wise, the portions were too big, felt like the price could have been a bit less and we could have done with less food. As we waited for our 3rd course, I mentioned to the server that we wanted to get settled up because we had some other plans. He took a while to bring the check and then someone else actually came by to process the transaction. Also, you have to valet park (which they validate) but we waited 10-15 minutes to leave with a cluster-F going on as hotel guests were checking out…the valets were extremely unorganized, lots of people were waiting unnecessarily. The place is beautiful and the food was good (although not amazing) and for the price even with the TravelZoo deal, I would say it was a pass.

Love this place, food and the ambience was fantastic but what we loved the most was the service 🤗 Thanks to Beshim Trust ( inside joke as I couldn’t get his name right) 😂 and the Amaya staff for excellent service 👏 Will definitely come back in the future 👍

Our brunch at Amaya was a wonderful experience. The timing of the serving of the courses and the size of the courses led to a dining experience that was comfortable and neither rushed nor too slow. My mother-in-law ordered the charcuterie which provided all three of us with enough of a sampling of everything and still had half left over. The selection of fine meats, cheeses and pickled vegetables were delicious. I had the escarole, ham and hen egg which would really have been sufficient for a meal. My wife had the chip pudding which was delicious and substantial. For course 2, I had the crab and avocado Benedict, which was done perfectly and was tasty as you would like it. My wife had the beef hash which wasn't impressive.For course 3, we each had a different dessert, which all were delicious. Thectables were far enough away from each other that we felt like we had our our own dining area without any interference or encroachment. The staff were friendly enough, but left us to enjoy each other's company without interference. The building is beautiful and elegant. Feels like a high end experience all around.

Menu at Amaya was not the same as menu on Open Table, need to update, a bit misleading when you are expecting certain items and then not there.
