The Royal is operated by James Hickson, who has a solid hospitality background having learned his trade at well-loved restaurants and gastropubs including St John, Great Queen Street, The Canton Arms and Moro. We make British food with a classic or modern slant. We source our ingredients from the local fields, woodlands and waters.     Not usually one to write reviews, but I felt compelled to by the absolutely outstanding dinner my partner and I had last night for Valentines. I had the scallops to start followed by the venison for main - one word, unbelievable. My partner had the Carbonara to start followed by the Guinea fowl. - both, she said, were incredible. To top it all off we enjoyed some complimentary homemade breads, an Amuse-bouche and some beautiful homemade chocolates. Incredible food complimented by an amazing service, and ambience. Both of us are non drinkers and so it was nice to see some mocktail options on the menu as well! Genuinely couldn’t recommend more. We’re already planning our next visit, just wish we had room for desert as well! - next time!

    We could not fault anything. Steve the restaurant manager was really good in control of the staff and service. The food was amazing expertly cooked to perfection.

    As we were visiting early on a Monday evening, the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, but we felt comfortable with a warm welcome. The food was excellent and the staff were friendly. We will definitely be returning.
