On West Clyde Street, the Riva dining space is stylish and comfortable which, in a way, reflects the food: traditional, wholesome recipes prepared and presented in a contemporary way. From both the Riva lunch menu and the a la carte, expect pizza, pasta, meat and fish, with each dish featuring only the freshest produce that’s local where possible or imported from Italy. Riva is just around the corner from Helensburgh main train station, meaning it’s pretty easy to get to from wherever you’re based in this glorious part of Scotland. Reservations are essential.

Having read some of the reviews I wasn’t sure this would be a great experience. It was the best afternoon tea I have ever had. Everything on the cake stand was fresh and delicious. The waiter was lovely, very good at his job. Being a Tuesday it was quiet but very enjoyable. The only downside was it was a little pricey but I guess you get what you pay for.
