A Northern Italian kitchen inspired by the Bacari of Venice.

Our menu is inspired by tradition and dictated by the quality and availability of ingredients. We play off the similarities between the climates of Eastern Ontario and Northeast Italy, and create our take on classic dishes made with seasonal game, seafood and vegetables. Plus, sometimes we’ll just add whatever we want.

On practically every calle, salizada and ruga in Venice, you’ll find a Bacaro – a casual place to grab a glass of wine or Prosecco and a bite to eat, known as “cichèti.” Bacari are Italy’s answer to the pub, and cichèti are the Italian answer to Spanish tapas. Italians have an answer for everything. Situated at the rear of the restaurant, our Bacaro upholds the Italian tradition of togetherness. It’s the perfect place to meet friends after work, or to share a casual glass of sparkling wine and a small bite to eat.

I had a disappointing dining experience, made worse by poor lighting and uncomfortable seating. The meal began with a few cocktails and appetizers. We tried the meatballs and the eggplant with yogurt. The meatballs were average—nothing memorable—but the eggplant and yogurt dish was a letdown. The eggplant was overcooked, and there was barely any yogurt; I wouldn’t recommend it at all. The pasta courses were slightly better. The butternut squash pasta was exceptional and truly the highlight of the evening. On the other hand, my spaghetti with porcini mushrooms was overly salty—likely due to the bacon or sauce—and left me needing water after every bite. For dessert, I had the dark chocolate cake Barozzi, which was excellent and a redeeming part of the meal. As for the atmosphere, while I appreciated the cozy, home-like decor, the lighting was dreadful—it felt like dining in a fog—and the chairs were uncomfortably stiff. Overall, the meal didn’t meet my expectations, and I’m unlikely to return

La cuisine est généralement assez bonne -- délicieuses pâtes à la chitarra, carne cruda bien présentée et très fraîche et agrémentée de miettes de croûtons bien croustillant, même si on est loin de la recette classique de Turin. Bonnes polpette classiques aussi. Mais il y a quelques anomalies. Pourquoi ajouter de l'huile de truffe sur un plat qui a des truffes fraiches ? Pourquoi des biscuits sucrés dans les mezzalune ? Et l'expérience générale n'est pas optimale. On sert du vin au verre sans venir à table avec la bouteille et on se fait dire que c'est normal. Or ça ne l'est pas dans un restaurant de cette gamme de prix. Le serveur, même s'il est très gentil, ne connaît à peu près pas les vins, ne peut pas vraiment en parler. Les explications des plats aussi ont l'air d'avoir été apprises par coeur. On n'a pas le sentiment qu'on pourrait discuter des produits ou de la cuisine italienne du nord en général. Pour de tels prix, on s'attend à plus de profondeur, plus de professionnalisme.

Food and service were great . Lives the tournedos and halibut. Mushroom spaghetti was terrific and wines were amazing!
