Merrick Inn, construido antes de la Guerra Civil, fue remodelado totalmente por la familia Cal Milam en 1936, y sirvió como casa de campo para uno de los mejores ranchos de caballos de Lexington.     For an upscale restaurant previously known for its southern hospitality and gracious service our meals last night lacked those qualities. From the speechless valet, yes he said nothing when I got out of the car, to the host that only asked who are you, when I approached the desk, the evening started with a lack of hospitality. Our server was quick to take drink orders and offered to tell us the evening specials. Nice service. The mixed drinks arrived quickly along with appetizers and warm bread, though the server had to be reminded to bring the glass of wine. The grouper fingers, shrimp special, and banana pepper appetizers were delicious. The food orders were taken and confirmed and the server checked up with us letting g us know the status of our order. The timing was appropriate. Food delivery was off, our server placed multiple entrees in front of the wrong diner, there were 6 of us. One entree did not have the topping as ordered. The plating was sloppy with greenery on some not all. Two steak entrees, ordered rare were well done. These were returned to kitchen. New ones delivered. One diner ordered a side salad that was delivered half way through dinner. Plates were removed at appropriate times. After dinner one diner ordered coffee, the coffee as delivered room temperature and with no spoon. When asked later how was the coffee, a hot cup was delivered. The food was good, but the service was sub par. There were too many mistakes and missteps. Failures from the valet, host, server, and kitchen. Merrick Inn needs to make corrections.

    I normally only have good things to say about Merrick, and while the service and atmosphere were on point as always, the meal itself was not the best. I ordered the salmon, listed as broiled with dill hollandaise. It looked tasty but was far too salty to eat, and I am a salt fiend who will dip a finger in the salt cellar when cooking. Our lovely server took it back for me and though the second piece was better, it was still on the salty side even though the kitchen send it out with the seasoning and hollandaise on the side in an effort to ameliorate the issue.

    The ambience is excellent. The historic and cozy environment contributes to an excellent dining setting. Some of the best Southern cooking I’ve had in a while. Service was excellent.

    Food was great, lovely surroundings. The only negative was the noise level. We were meeting someone we hadn't seen for a while, and it was hard to hear each other.

    We’ve been here many times. I was surprised that the speed of the delivery of the dishes was very rushed. It’s never been like that. Didn’t have much time between courses
