Le Cafe du Marche es un restaurante francés en el corazón de Smithfield, si bien en realidad se trate de tres restaurantes El restaurante está ubicado al fondo de una callejuela empedrada, a aproximadamente 35 metros de Charterhouse Square y Charterhouse Street. El Café está abierto para el almuerzo de lunes a viernes (de 24:00 a 14:30) y para la cena de lunes a sábado (de 18:00 a 22:00). El Café es el restaurante principal ubicado en la planta baja y sirve mayoritariamente cocina francesa de provincia. En la planta alta también se encuentra el restaurante Le Grenier, similar al anterior pero con un menú que hace más hincapié en platillos a la parrilla. La brasserie Le Rendezvous se encuentra a la vuelta de la esquina sobre Charterhouse Street. El restaurante existe desde hace 25 años pero se recomienda a quienes aún no lo conocen que lo visiten pronto.

Le Cafe du Marche continues to offer a first class dining experience. An interesting menu, excellent food, a particularly good sparkling wine to start and very attentive service. Thoroughly recommended.

We have eaten at Le Cafe du Marche previously when it was very good. However, this visit wasn't. It's a lovely restaurant with two adjoining rooms and a pianist playing between them. It's very much a French bistro style Cafe. We had two courses at the set price and both had pheasant as our main. The portions were very small and a bit chewy, and were thigh and leg where normally I would expect breast or a combination to be served. The order got confused as we asked for no pork and it turned out there were lardons in the sprouts so one of the orders had to be repeated. My pheasant was red near the bone - I know this is ok with game, but I found it very off-putting and didn't eat some of it. We ordered different deserts, but both were pastry based. In both cases the pastry was thick and not particularly nice. Our waiter was excellent and did his best but my overall impression was that things were not going right in the kitchen in terms of communication with the front of house, and the food preparation and cooking. A real shame.

A delicious lunch. My only criticism was that the red wine had come straight from the cellar and was too chilled.

We love this place we always have but something was so wrong last night. They can’t make a Negroni then we asked for a martini rosso, no we only have martini bianco. The bar is shameful, the brands that we saw up on the shelf, Smirnoff, really? So disappointing and then to add insult to injury, no espresso as well. I expect much better service from a restaurant that is famous for its quality overall. The food was okay but everything else around it dampened the experience. Such a shame.

So it was 5 stars all around. The service was probably 5.5 stars even thought the waiters were Italian not French but for me good service is attentive at all time while not being intrusive. My wife had one cocktail with the meal and wash tentative in ordering and the waiter watached observantly and when she was not drinking came and asked if everything was OK and she said she would have liked it a little more sweet than sour so he took it away and adjusted. Happy wife happy life as they say.

One of the most beautiful restaurants I have been to. The atmosphere is fantastic made even better by the live pianist. The food was also brilliant, with the pheasant being a particular highlight.

Lovely food and staff, left you alone to chat and there when you needed them. No rushing you away because they want the table, enjoyable atmosphere - just a lovely lovely place.

Fabulous French place down a little alleyway off the very pretty Charterhouse square. Charming and full of character with an authentic, neighbourhood feel. Great food, really classic and delicious. Super service. Good value. In short, a delight!
