Entrar al Saloon, un restaurante de gestión familiar desde que abrió en 1967, es como penetrar en el pasado de Filadelfia. Sus paneles de roble oscuro, su latón brillante y sus antigüedades locales auténticas crean un acogedor ambiente agradable y casual. Mawn is a noodle house with “no rules,” and the first restaurant for Chef Phila Lorn and his wife Rachel, who bring with them close to 20 years of experience in Philly’s restaurant scene. Phila, pronounced “Pee La,” broken English for Philadelphia, is a first-generation Cambodian-American chef. The first in his family to be born here, his parents and siblings came to Philadelphia as refugees in 1985 after surviving the war in Cambodia.Mawn, which means “chicken” in Khmer, the Cambodian language, represents more than one thing. To Phila, chicken was at every meal growing up, and to his parents, chicken represented peacetime. During the war and genocide of the Cambodian people, there was mostly only what was found in nature to eat, including rice and salt. If there was chicken, it meant no war. At the end of that dark time, recipes were lost, and culture was wiped out, but through survival, a new authenticity was born.

Hager es además el propietario del Wursthaus Schmitz en el histórico Reading Terminal Market, una tienda de sándwiches y embutidos especializada en platillos preparados al momento y productos estilo alemán que se venden por peso. Hager sigue aumentando la variedad de su destacada carta de cervezas para complementar la tan aclamada gastronomía de Brauhaus. Hager obtiene de Alemania 29 de sus 30 cervezas de barril, producto de las relaciones que creó con los cerveceros durante sus visitas a esa nación, y muchas de estas variedades no se ofrecen en ningún otro lugar de la ciudad, el estado e incluso el país. We were on 1526 Sansom St. for 14 years and then moved to 1300 South St. We create gourmet Afghan food that you can find in Afghanistan or here at our Philadelphia location. We have mouthwatering flavors starting from our bread to our kabobs. Our bread's recipe and technique have been passed down from the founder's great-great-grandfather, who owned an array of bakeries and managed many restaurants in Kabul. Passed through generations to our chef, who brought delicious meals to 15th and Sansom of Philadelphia. Then from 15th and Sansom to 1300 South St. We have delectable food that you fall in love with and will bring comfort to you, from our meat lovers to our vegans. Located at 1009 S. 8th Street in Philadelphia’s Bella Vista neighborhood, Paffuto serves breakfast and lunch specialties on mornings and afternoons from Wednesday through Sunday, featuring panzerotti, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, salads, sides, and house-made pastries. Housed in a 1,400-square-foot, 23-seat restaurant, Paffuto (meaning plump in Italian) now serves dinner on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with one seating at 7:00.
