We make British food with a classic or modern slant. We source our ingredients from the local fields, woodlands and waters. Everything is cooked on the premises, including the sourdough bread and the icecreams.The Good Food Guide (2023) says: "A fittingly quaint old building, complete with original features, given a suave modern twist via grey panelling and contemporary furniture. Chef-proprietor Martin Peacock has built his menu on classical French traditions and impeccable sourcing and there’s real creativity and originality on show here. The international wine list offers a decent but not overlong selection, with accessible pricing.Vegetarian: we will always offer at least one starter and one main vegetarian choice. At the heart of the kitchen is a wood-charcoal grill, where our kitchen team roast seafood landed that day from fishermen based in Rye Harbour. Amazing food! I booked the 'Festive Party Menu', the Rocksalt fish soup was full of flavour and the dark chocolate mousse was the best dessert I have had in a while. Lovely views and Christmas decorations. I would definitely recommend to a friend and would love to return in the summer.

Starters and mains superb. Our waiter Rumain went above and beyond to make my husbands birthday special even singing happy birthday in Spanish to him. My daughter in law actually said it’s the best meal out she has ever had it was the clams in sofite rice ( very like paella). Thoroughly recommend.

The food was both delicious and imaginative. Portions were just right, and the extra free nibbles were much appreciated. Wine was also very good and reasonably priced

Perfect in every possible way!! The ambience and service were outstanding!! The food (scallops, potato and leek soup, venison, and sea bass) were prepared imaginatively and impeccably.
