Loved our experience during Restaurant Week! The food was amazing and the staff was so nice and helpful (we brought our 19 month old!) Will definitely be back!

When there are so many delicious restaurants in Charleston it is a bit shocking this place is still open. The extremely kind staff was really the only redeeming quality. My boyfriend and I came in for restaurant week and I was really excited to try everything! This place had been on my list for a while. I started off with the potato truffle soup. It was a small cup and while it was mediocre and I did eat it there was so much oil in it (as you can see in the photo) I had trouble getting it on my spoon. My boyfriend got a Brussel sprout salad, which he did not finish. Our second course I got a pasta and shrimp dish. The pasta was overcooked and had no flavor, until my second bite which the only “flavor” was just straight spice from all the red pepper flakes. I’m normally not one to voice my complaints but my boyfriend insisted and the waitress was so sweet. She did say though, “yeah, that’s been a hit or miss”. Then why is it still on the menu?! My boyfriend got a chicken plate and it was edible but still not good. Then dessert comes out, they were out of the hazelnut crunch bar and said they had some gelato, that works fine for me. They bring it out (I forgot to take a picture) and it’s so hard it looks like a cake! Gelato should be creamy. I take a bite, as does my boyfriend, and its freezer burned. The staff was very kind and offered to replace everything but with everything being bad I really had had enough. That is why I gave 2 stars, because the staff made up for it. It was so overpriced and by far the worst restaurant experience with the food in Charleston I’ve had.

My sister and I celebrated her birthday at Rue de Jean during restaurant week. Overall experience was outstanding and they treated my sister very well!

This was our third trip to 39 Rue de Jean and it did not disappoint. My husband was torn between the French onion soup (he is a huge fan) and the fried goat cheese salad and the winner was the salad. The big smile on his face said it all! I selected moules marinière - expertly prepared with white wine, shallots and parsley and happily used the lovely fresh bread at the table to sop up the delicious juices. A great way to start the meal. A seared pork tenderloin with pommes purée and fried Brussels sprouts was my husband’s choice and he was delighted. I went with an 8 ounce filet accompanied by yummy fries. As we were staying in a hotel, a to-go bag was reluctantly declined. Excellent food and service… we will be back!!

Very nice venue. Food was very good. Out table was a very small cafe table. It made it difficult to eat. Our server was pleasant but a group of 8+ came in and we were lost. Not her fault. Next time I would make sure of my table and try to keep the server attentive. Overall, very nice. Just need to u destined better the next time we go.

Our meal was top notch, my wife’s bass special was well cooked and nicely seasoned. My duck was the best I have eaten. The escargot appetizer was perfectly seasoned. Our server, Christin, was intuitive in her service and fun to chat with vs as food was brought. Highly recommended.
